In this blood smear from a cat with a severe anemia (HCT 14%, reference interval, 31-48%), several polychromatophils are seen (arrows). These would correspond to aggregate reticulocytes. An absolute reticulocyte count was 120,000/uL, indicating a moderate regenerative response. A single lymphocyte (lymph) is also noted in this smear (Wright’s stain, 1000x magnification).
