An eosinophilic myelocyte (long arrow), mature segmented neutrophil (short arrow) and a polychromatophil (arrowhead). Note the aggregates of eosinophil granules (within cytoplasmic fragments) in the middle right hand side of the image. It was suspected that these were erroneously counted as platelets, falsely increasing the automated platelet count. One small platelet is next to the eosinophilic myelocyte (Wright’s stain, 50x objective).
