Figure 1a: Epithelial cells and denerate neutrophils

Figure 1: Degenerate neutrophils dominate in the highly cellular fluid. A small cluster of large flat epithelial cells with central nuclei, abundant pale to turquiose blue cytoplasm with distinct angular boundaries is present in the center of the field (arrow). These cells were observed in quite low numbers in the direct smears of the peritoneal fluid.
