Regenerative anemia in a dog

Regenerative anemia canine

In this image from a blood smear of an anemic dog, many polychromatophilic RBC (arrows) are present. These would correspond to aggregate reticulocytes in a new methylene blue-stained smear and would be counted in a percentage and absolute reticulocyte count. Accompanying the polychromatophilic (immature, anucleate) RBC are other features of regeneration, including nucleated RBC (nRBC) and a mature RBC containing a nuclear remnant (Howell-Jolly body, arrowhead).
