In this hemodiluted smear of a joint fluid from a dog with degenerative joint disease, large mononuclear cells (non-reactive macrophages, M) dominate with low numbers of small lymphocytes (L). One of hte macrophages is slightly vacuolated (arrow). There is a moderate amount of blood with a few platelets (arrowheads) in the background.
