Hepatic lipidosis

The hepatocytes are markedly distended with lipid in this aspirate of a cat with diffuse hepatomegaly (Wright’s stain, 1000x magnification). The cat had markedly increased ALT, AST and ALP activities with a mild increase in total bilirubin (both unconjugated and conjugated) with bilirubinuria, indicating active hepatocellular injury and cholestasis.
