Monoclonal gammopathy

Monoclonal

In the electrophoretogram tracing from this dog, there is low albumin (based on the absolute value in the chart – this also has a low peak in relation to the γ globulin peak) and a marked increase in γ globulins, which is a tall narrow peak. This is characteristic of a monoclonal gammopathy. There is no concurrent acute phase response (α globulins are normal), which is also typical of this pattern. Radial immunodiffusion indicated that the monoclonal immunoglobulin was IgG and there was a concurrent IgA and IgM deficiency (low concentrations).
