A moderately granulated mast cell (arrow) is seen in the blood of a dog with severe inflammation due to pancreatitis. The mast cell is next to a band neutrophil demonstrating mild to moderate toxic change (Dohle bodies, cytoplasmic vacuolation, cytoplasmic basophilia). A large platelet is also present in the smear (the dog was concurrently thrombocytopenic due to associated disseminated intravascular coagulation).
