Regenerative anemia in a horse

Horse regenerative anemia

In this image from an anemic horse, numerous macrocytes (M) are seen. These can, but usually do not, contain any RNA (i.e. are usually not punctate reticulocytes). A normal RBC (arrow) is shown by comparison. A large platelet is also present in the smear (arrowhead) (Wright’s stain).
