Variable stages of protozoan organisms are seen in the biliary epithelial cells and biliary lumen. Maturing macrogametes are characterized by a central round nucleus with a prominent nucleolus and lightly eosinophilic granular cytoplasm with occasional brightly eosinophilic, peripheral granules (Ma). The microgamonts are round, 15-30 um in diameter, with lightly basophilic granular internal structures (Mi). Oocytes are also noted (Oo). Intra-epithlieal immature forms are also noted (Im).
