Figure 2: The small lymphocytes are negative for Periodic-acid Schiff (PAS) stain (black arrows), whereas thrombocytes contain low numbers of pink-red PAS-positive cytoplasmic granules. PAS stains polysaccharides and mucoproteins in cells. These staining patterns are characteristic for these avian cells2 (400x magnification).
