Figure 4: A neutrophil (arrow) contains several small ring to coccoid bacteria. These cytologic features (small size, ring shape) are typical for Mycoplasmataceae species, either Mycoplasma or Ureaplasma. The swollen nucleus could be due to a “true” degenerative change secondary to the infection or an artifact of storage in urine (Wright’s stain).
