Overall, the inflammatory infiltrate was mild, however in regions of the smears, there were numerous inflammatory cells, such as those depicted in this image. Most of the inflammatory cells were heterophils, with a few macrophages (arrows), including binucleated forms. Multinucleated macrophages were also seen in low numbers (not shown) (modified Wright’s stain).
