A circular swirl of epithelial cells, showing subtle features of squamous differentiation, such as glassier smoother blue cytoplasm and a hint of perinuclear vacuolation (arrow). The few spindled cells could be supportive stroma or a schirrous response to the tumor. Low numbers of heterophils are present, indicating concurrent inflammation (modified Wright’s stain).
