This figure illustrates the “ruffling” or cytoplasmic blebbing seen around the periphery of some cells. In this case, the cell is multinucleated or multilobulated and resembles a megakaryocyte, albeit dysplastic. Ruffling is a characteristic finding, when present, of blasts that are of megakaryocytic origin. note how some of the other adjacent blasts have a few clear cytoplasmic vacuoles, another finding in neoplastic megakaryocytes (Wright’s stain, 100x objective, cropped).
