Most of the differentiating and immature megakaryocytes, including erythrophagocytic variants, are diffusely and strongly positive in their cytoplasm for alpha-naphthyl butyrate esterase (ANBE), a marker of monocytes and megakaryocytes in dogs. Note the nuclear atypia in the cells (50x objective).
