In this image from a smear prepared from blood soon after collection and submitted by the veterinarian (fresh blood), note the better preservation of the erythrocytes and leukocytes. Mycoplasma wenyonii organisms are readily identified as individual organisms versus aggregates in the aged sample and their variable ring, round, racquet and chain-like structures can be easily discerned (black arrows). Some organisms are still present on erythrocytes. A lymphocyte is also present in this image (Wrights stain 1000x magnification).
