Basophilic stippling of erythrocytes

Basophilic stippling

Left panel: Basophilic stippling in a large polychromatophilic RBC in the blood of a cow with a hemolytic anemia (extravascular hemolysis) due to Anaplasma bovis (not shown).
Right panel: Basophilic stippling is evident in the center RBC, which also has a Howell-Jolly body and is mildly hypochromic. The focal accumulation of dark granules are more compatible with siderocytes (iron accumulation) than basophilic stippling (RNA aggregates). Several eccentrocytes are also seen.
