Cytauxzoon schizont in a blood smear of a cat

Cytaux schizont

A macrophage with a schizont of Cytauxzoon felis was identified at the feathered edge of a blood smear of an infected cat. Note the very prominent and large nucleolus in the infected cell. Slide provided courtesy of Dr. Robin Allison and presented as a mystery slide case at the 2005 ASVCP meeting
