regenerative anemia ruminant

Reindeer regeneration

Regenerative anemia in a reindeer with hemorrhage. There is polychromasia (likely corresponding to aggregate reticulocytes), macrocytes (larger RBC than normal; these may be punctate reticulocytes) and basophilic stippled cells. A Howell jolly body (nuclear remnant) is seen in one RBC (upper left). Many platelets are present in the background (Wright’s stain).
