This sample was aspirate from the abdominal cavity of a horse and is very unusual for equine peritoneal fluid in that it is creamy yellow. The fluid was chylous in nature. This type of effusion is rare in horses and reported with congenital lymphatic disorders, adhesions in the peritoneum and pancreatitis. This horse had pancreatitis.
