Lipemia

Lipemia

Blood from a dog was collected after a 12 hour fast. After centrifugation in a microhematocrit tube, the supernatant plasma was severely lipemia (3+) (red arrow). The dog in this case had diabetes mellitus with increases in chylomicrons and very low density lipoproteins that were responsible for the lipemia. Corresponding triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations were high in serum.
